Spot description - Central Fountain Traffic Circle in Chiayi

This camera is located at the Triangular Iron Clock in Chiayi City. The picture shows Chiayi's "Central Fountain Traffic Circle," a sentiment landmark of Chiayi residents. The view also takes in a bronze statue of Sun Yat-Sen and the busy commercial area nearby.

The Jhongshan Traffic Circle is also known as the Chiayi Fountain. Former Chiayi Mayor Hsu Shih-hsien personally supervised the installation of the fountain in 1969.

The fountain and pool have 14 different variations. The rainbow colors of the fountain are particularly dazzling at night. All candidates try to hold campaign rallies here on the eve of an election, and the place becomes a veritable political carnival. This political grandstanding at the fountain has turned into a tradition.

Nearby tourist spots include Lake Lan, the City God Temple, Renwu Temple, the Su Chou-lien Ancestral Shrine, Jhongjheng Park, Hongmao Well, Tiedao Artists' Village, Museum of Jiaojhih Porcelain, Chiayi Park, Sherih Tower, and Beimen Station. These many sites give Chiayi a quaint traditional charm.
