The National Science & Technology Museum is located in Kaohsiung. The museum finally opened its doors in 1997 after 11 years of planning and construction. Situated within a 19-hectare park, the museum buildings are located on both sides of Jiouru Road. Together with the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung and the National Museum of Marine Biology in Hengchun, the National Science & Technology Museum is one of three major science museums in Taiwan.

The museum's architecture features a high-clearance, high-load design that is meant to last a century. The main structure of the museum was built in one effort. The geometric, modular construction of the museum uses triangular, square, and round elements. A straight central corridor connects the various exhibit rooms. The museum contains more than 100,000 square meters of floor space, making it the largest science museum in Asia.
