Spot description - Guanyin Pavilion in Penghu

This camera is located at the Guanyin Pavilion in Penghu's Seaside Park. The picture shows nearby buildings and the sun setting past distant Siyu Island.

The Guanyin Pavilion is located in by the shore of Penghu Bay outside the north gate of Magong City. Built by the insurgent leader Hsueh Kui in 1696, it is now listed as a Class 3 historic site. Dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva, this temple features lovely architecture and classical elegance. Nestled against a hill and facing the sea, the pavilion site offers a superlative view. The Wangchao Pavilion, on the right side of the Guanyin Pavilion, is considered one of Penghu's "Four Seaside Pavilions," together with the Jieshou Pavilion, Haitun Pavilion, and Huai-en Pavilion. This is a fine spot to gaze at the ocean scenery and watch the setting sun.

The Guanyin Pavilion is a Buddhist shrine dedicated to Nanhai Guanyin Bodhisattva. This structure was destroyed during the Sino-French War and rebuilt in 1892. A very popular swimming beach located in front of the pavilion is usually crowded with people on summer days. There are sometimes windsurfers or women collecting edible sea snails. A stroll along the seawall around sundown can be a supremely relaxing and purifying experience.
