Spot description - Hutoupi Reservoir

This camera is located at the Hutoupi Reservoir Youth Activity Center. The picture shows Hutoupi Reservoir, which was Taiwan's earliest reservoir and bears the nickname "Little Sun Moon Lake."

Located not far from the town of Sinhua in Tainan County, Hutoupi Reservoir is 150 years old and was once listed as one of "Taiwan's 12 Scenic Wonders." The reservoir gets its name from the nearby hill's tigerlike shape ("hutou" = "tiger's head").

Hutoupi Reservoir offers 27 hectares of water for various forms of aquatic recreation. There is a full set of recreation facilities within the Scenic Area, including a swimming pool, barbecue area, fishing area, camping area, dining center, peninsula leisure area, suspension bridge, Tiger Moon Pavilion, lake-watching pavilions, activity center, and conference facilities. A Martyrs' Shrine, horse corral, and American-style wilderness youth campground are located near the back gate.

"Moonlight on Hutoupi" was once considered one of the "Eight Sights of Tainan County." The famous local scholar Wang Tze-hsiu celebrated the reservoir scenery in a poem, and the Tainan County Government has undertaken a major campaign to make the reservoir a full-fledged travel destination.
