Little Yeliou is located approximately five or six kilometers north
of the city of Taitung. is the southernmost scenic attraction in the East
Coast National Scenic Area. Little Yeliou received its name because its
wave-eroded rocks are similar to those at Yeliou on Taiwan's north coast.
The rocks at Little Yeliou are mostly composed of sandstone. Because
sandstone is not a typical rock type on the Philippines Plate, the five-kilometer
sandstone outcrop extending to the north and south of Little Yeliou is
of great interest to geologists. The strangely shaped rocks at Little
Yeliou were once carved by the ocean waves. When the weather is good,
you can see Lydao Island far out at sea. Fukang Harbor, not far to the
south of Little Yeliou, is the point of departure for passenger boats
to the islands of Lyudao and Lanyu.
